What is the importance of sampling?
Sampling is a mandatory poultry management practice. Because feed shipments, especially in our country, reach poultry farmers from various places. This diversity sometimes leads to differences in how food is stored, transported and quality. For example, one of the most important qualitative indicators is the presence of mycotoxins or fungal toxins in the feed. The entry of mycotoxins into poultry farming is the background of a few problems in poultry farming. You can read more about mycotoxins, their consequences and ways to control them in poultry farming here (link to mycotoxins article). Sampling also helps prevent fraud or poor quality feed before it enters the poultry farm.
What is principled sampling?
In popular proverbs, it is said, “A handful is a sign of good fortune.” But in fact, in a scientific and principled study, a mass of fist material is not a good sign. In statistical science, a sample is a part of a community or mass that is examined to estimate one or more branches. To make this estimate more accurate, it is necessary to increase the samples from a sum. Sampling of a mass follows a special pattern. Figure 1 shows some examples of material mass sampling tools. Each of these tools has different applications depending on the material under study.
If we consider the cargo in a freight car or wagon, the sampling pattern should be similar to Figure 2. Sampling can be done using manual or automatic tools. In the figure above, insert the sampler to a depth of 60 cm. At point B, half the distance from the tip to the center, at point C, three-quarters of the distance from the tip to the center, at point D, halve the sampler, and at points G, F, and E, such as A, B, and C, which are intersecting points. we give.
Sampling of wet load
Step-by-step sampling patterns for cases with moistened parts of grains or meal are suggested in Figure 3. In this case a three-step process is proposed. A: Insert a bar into all load sections. B: You can tell if a part is wet or damaged by sound. Therefore, insert the bar only in the area that appears to be damaged or substandard to estimate the dimensions of the damage to the load. C: Using a special sampler, sample the part that looks healthy according to the pattern. Each sample must be at least two kilograms. Samples should be analyzed separately. The ratio of damaged to healthy should also be determined.
Notes on sampling
It should be noted that the samples of different feed (healthy load) should finally be mixed together in equal amounts of each load, poured into containers with lids or suitable plastic packaging and then the name of the shipper, date, origin, name plate The driver of the car should write the entrance on it so that it is not easily erased. This is important because it helps the poultry manager to find the root in the event of any problems during the breeding period of broilers, chickens or laying hens, its rooting is easier and possible.
